ANNELIE WALLIN

Human Printer

English version:

Annelie Wallin lives in Stockholm and holds a MFA from Art Academy in Stockholm 1989-94. She works with drawing, sculpture, photography and video, as well as with public art commissons and site specific process- and participant-based projects. Wallin has been active in the artist-driven art scene since 2004 and in recent years has exhibited at galleries in Sweden, Germany, Greece and Canada, together with ID:I galleri.

In March 2023 I participated in the group exhibition ”Station to Station” here at the gallery with two drawings under the project name ”Human Printer”. The drawings and sculptures that I am now showing are a continuation and deepening of that work. I often set up a number of a number of frames or rules for a material or a course of events, and then let the consequences of the execution create the work of art. Often the documentation of the creation process becomes the work itself. In the video ”Hello World”, we get to follow the growth and migration of a slime fungus in search of food. By luring it with strategically placed oatmeal and thus tricking it into writing a message to the outside world. In the sequel ”THE_”, the time-lapse photography is cut and dramatized in the best Hollywood style, where the slime fungus is allowed to act as a threat, a ”creature” that lies in wait and sneaks up on the oatmeal.

Inspired by the growth and movement of the slime fungus, I began to draw and sculpt consciously unconsciously”.

During the spring and summer of 2022, she participated in the project ”The sea that surrounds us”, where 10 artists and ten community centers in the Stockholm archipelago worked together in process and participant-based art projects that involved the local community and focused on the relationship between man and the sea, on responsible actions and perspective. Songs from the Woods in October

Songs from the Woods. Vernissage the 19:th of aug 2023 Gamle dal, Trollhättan.

”Songs from the Woods” is the first Landart Symposium hold in Trollhättan, Gamle dal, old lock area. The artists were invited to work and live together for two weeks, exploring the forest in Gamle dal, get to know eachother and exchanging knowledge in seminaries during the evenings. The artpieces that were made are on display at the site during the autumn and here on film.

The artists participating are:
Greta Kardi (LT)
Ingrid Ogenstedt (SE/DE)
Anna Widén (SE/NO)
Wolfgang Buntrock (DE)
Karl Chilkott (SE)

THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN 19 AUG – 31 OCT
After 31 oct, the landartpieces that hold will stay and decompost.

Background:
Gamle Dal is a site with great historic and contemporary importance for life and innovation in Trollhättan. The southern part of the sluice route, a fundamental function for shipping and trade, meet the dramatic Göta älv supplying the industry with energy and the sublime landscape closely connected with the identity of Trollhättan. Land Art is created on site with the conditions of the landscape and the material of the forest. Five artists are gathered from Northern Europe to create Land Art on the conditions of the landscape and with the materials on site. For two weeks you can follow the process in Gamle Dal, Trollhättan.

Project concept: The name“Songs from the Woods” is taken from the tradition of the Aboriginal people in Australia; that instead of maps for remembering, have meandering songlines to find their way through the landscape. To tell the woods, to sing it´s song, is a way to engage with the surrounding forest and celebrate the wonder and gentle presence of it. Since we are invited to renew the trails and reawaken the knowledge of this part of Gamle Dal, we think that new songs and traditions will be made by your works in the landscape. The pieces we are inviting the artists to do will be the first “songs” from this particular woodland.

Annelie Wallin (SE) artist and curator for this project.
Land Art, Songs from the Woods, is a collaboration between the City of Trollhättan and the art consultants Agneta Stening and Anna Eggert.

Songs from the Woods

Greta Kardi (LT)
Ingrid Ogenstedt (SE/DE)
Anna Widén (SE/NO)
Wolfgang Buntrock (DE)
Karl Chilkott (SE)

Var: Gamle Dal, Fall och Slussområdet Trollhättan

Arbetet pågår: 7 – 19 augusti, med vernissage 19 augusti.

Konstverken kommer att stå kvar tom 31 oktober.

Projektets koncept:

The southern part of the sluice route, a fundamental function for shipping and trade, meet the dramatic Göta älv supplying the industry with energy and the sublime landscape closely connected with the identity of Trollhättan.

Land Art is a genre sprung from American minimalism in the late 1960´s, taking off in the 1970´s and becoming its own artistic stream. The early land art artists used the landscape as material for sculpture and performative practices to highlight mans impact on earth. Today land art is a broad and global practice but in many ways still investigating the relation between human and nature.

During: 7 – 19 August, vernissage 19 August.

The works will be on display until 31 of october.

Engelsk version

Day and night, darkness and light, earth and air, good and evil, war and peace, dictatorship and democracy. They all stand on opposing sides of the line, which moves slowly and imperceptibly forward. Or is it only going around in a circle?

Latitude, the hour hand, earth’s surface, combat line. Folding inwards, traveling towards the center of the earth and the darkness enclose its subterranean creatures. Some evolve in the dark and, like Dracula, cannot survive in the light. Some do not see the light (our warlords). Shadow does not exist without sunlight. The photography develops slowly in the dark under a dangling red lamp, only to become visible in the light. The daylily. The sunbeam dissolving an icicle.

We are four artists from ID:I who exhibit and showcase works about darkness, either as something tangible in the soil, or the metaphorical and philosophical darkness, such as war and the planet’s threatened environment.

Welcome!

Oatmeal Spin på ”Stuff it”
